Letter from the Chairman

The aim of this web site is to provide you with a better understanding of who we are and what we do, and thereby help you to position how Syan can help your business prosper.

2005 marked the 20th birthday of the Syan group and ever since our formation in 1985 we have expanded our skills base to encompass an ever increasing range of IT products and services. This allows us to provide our customers with complete, tailor made solutions to address their ever changing business and IT needs. Our impressive customer list includes a number of the UK's best-known blue-chip companies such as British Airways, Charcol, Comet, HBOS, Jaguar and Woolworths.

The Syan group has grown both organically and through acquisitions. In 2004 we acquired NetSoft Systems to further enhance our capabilities with Intel systems, In 2005, we acquired Generation 9 Computer Services, another company specialising in Intel systems and network solutions, and we are expecting to make further acquisitions in 2006 to complement our existing solutions and capabilities.

2005 proved to be another difficult year for the business and IT sector. However, despite difficult trading conditions, Syan ended the year with revenues of over £38 million and with profits before tax up almost 38% to £1,091,766. Our forecasts for 2006 show that, despite the continuing pressure on margins, our business will continue to generate healthy profits.

In April 2006, we will commission our new design and build data and business recovery centre costing £1,500,000 at Newport, Shropshire, some 6 miles east of our main data centre at Hortonwood, Telford. This facility will further improve the robustness and resilience of our existing outsourcing solutions by providing both Syan and our customers with additional disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities. Our business recovery services were taken to market in 2005 and, with the addition of a 125 seat facility at Newport, are expected to become profitable in the second half of 2006.
For 2006 our priorities are clear:

  • The attraction, motivation and retention of a strong 'team'
  • The focus on our core competencies, in particular Outsourcing
  • The maintenance of the highest quality standards
  • The 'cultivation' of stable, long-term partnerships with both our customers and business partners

However, ultimately the reason for our success lies in the strength and quality of our members of staff. We are a team. With a staff of over 200 people, we have some of the most experienced technical specialists in the industry.

We will continue to derive value from our relationships with suppliers, partners and staff to provide on-going value to our customers.
