Syan has been audited for the stringent BS7799 standard for Information
Security Management, which covers both physical and logical security.
As part of this accreditation, Syan has to show that all aspects of its
security policy are documented and adhered to.
Extensive measures have been implemented to address such security risks
by increasing the physical security both of Syan's premises and of the
computer facilities contained within them.
The highest level of security is in effect at Hortonwood 37 in Telford. Operations and security staff are on site 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Electronic security locks control all access to the premises. High security perimeter fencing is in place with video surveillance cameras monitoring and recording internal and external activity.
At our secondary data centre electronic security locks control access through internal and external doors. Video surveillance cameras, with local and remote monitoring, cover all exterior areas of the building.
At all sites visitors are required to wear identification badges at all times. Both employees and security staff are instructed to challenge or report unknown personnel on the premises.
Access to the computer rooms is restricted to authorised technical staff and certain approved contractors; other employees, visitors and contractors may only enter the rooms if accompanied by authorised personnel and must be supervised at all times. Access is controlled through a series of physical security locks to restricted areas. Where employees with access rights leave Syan's employment these rights are immediately revoked and the access codes or keys changed accordingly. Further restrictions exist on certain communications equipment controlling external access to systems.
Intruder alarms are installed at both sites as a deterrent and to alert staff to any security breach. All employees are required to be aware of the importance of maintaining security standards and to challenge and report any strangers on the premises.
